The White Army opposed the Bolsheviks during the Russian Civil War.
Makerenkov claimed that the Whites and the Bolsheviks were just as bad as each other, although he later turned out to be a Bolshevik agent.
In July 1918, White and Czech forces advanced on Ekaterinburg. In response, on 16 July, the Red Army forces holding the town carried out the execution of the former Tsar Nicholas and his family, who were being held prisoner in Ipatiev House.
