(Redirected from William Stewart)

William Stewart, (PROSE: The Soothsayer) later William Lethbridge-Stewart, was a member of the Lethbridge-Stewart family, a part of the Scottish Clan Stewart (PROSE: The Dying Days, TV: Terror of the Zygons) in the 16th and 17th centuries. He was a distant ancestor of Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart.

A close advisor of King James VI of Scotland, Lethbridge-Stewart accompanied him to London in 1603 in preparation for his coronation as James I of England. Their arrival was triumphant, marked by what the Eighth Doctor called "a glorious parade, a magnificent spectacle." While the Eighth Doctor referred to him as a general, (PROSE: The Dying Days) he was a Captain during this event. Also attending the coronation at Hampton Court Palace was Sir John Lethbridge, Baronet of Jacaobstowe, and his daughter Mary Lethbridge. William and Mary would go on to get married, with Mary's father insisting that she kept her surname. Hence their son was called Henry John Lethbridge-Stewart. (PROSE: The Soothsayer) In addition, the Eighth Doctor would later refer to William as "William Lethbridge-Stewart". (PROSE: The Dying Days) Mary died giving birth to Henry. (PROSE: The Soothsayer)
