John Hartman

John Hartman worked in security after leaving the British Army. He was the father of Yvonne Hartman.

John served in the British military. (AUDIO: Through the Ruins) He and his wife Anne had two children: a son (AUDIO: One Rule) and a daughter, Yvonne. (AUDIO: The Rockery) Due to his career, the family moved around a lot. (AUDIO: Through the Ruins)
The Hartmans were able to settle down after John left the army and took a job in security. He wanted Yvonne to attend a boarding school, but Anne insisted that she attend the local comprehensive instead so that she might mix with people of varying backgrounds. (AUDIO: The Rockery)
After a hiker was found dead in the woods near Fetch Priory, Dr Fendelman instructed Maximillian Stael to place a call to London and tell "Hartman" to send a security team. (TV: Image of the Fendahl, AUDIO: Night of the Fendahl)
John and Anne were aware of Yvonne's career at Torchwood One, (AUDIO: The Rockery) whilst their son worked as a bouncer. (AUDIO: One Rule) The couple lived in Kent in a ramshackle house with a wild garden that John planned to tame once he retired. However, in 2003, a month before retirement, he suffered a heart attack at his desk and died before Anne could get to the hospital. (AUDIO: The Rockery)

Yvonne had mixed feelings about her father. She rarely visited her mother because she could not bear to see her without him and told William Hogan that she would like to meet her father during Ghost Shift, (AUDIO: The Rockery) but also told Rachel Allan that she wished she could say the same about her own father as Rachel did hers, that he had been her hero. Security files on the Fendahl reached Torchwood through Yvonne, who had obtained them from John. This was a deliberate plan by the Fendahl to have the files cross Gwen Cooper's path. (AUDIO: Night of the Fendahl)

Yvonne's counterpart from Pete's World told Andy Davidson that her father locked her in a cupboard when she misbehaved, explaining her fear of the dark, but later refused to confirm if she was telling the truth or not. (AUDIO: See No Evil)

Hartman enjoyed gardening. Whilst Anne said that Yvonne was "her father's daughter", she denied it and said she was more like her mother. (AUDIO: The Rockery)
