- You may be looking for the planet.
Anubis was an Osirian worshipped in Egypt as the god who presided over rituals of the dead and possibly served as king of the dead. Egyptian art depicted him with the black head of a jackal. Anubis and Horus led the procession that sealed away Nephthys on Earth ca. 5000 BC, with Anubis directing his priests and receiving the soul of Nephthys in the canopic jar with the image associated with him. (MA: The Sands of Time)
Peri Brown opened a canopic jar with his head and discovered a human organ inside much to her disgust. His name was listed in an Osirian grimoire associated with the forbidden cult of Kephri from ca. 2000 BC. (DWM: The Curse of the Scarab)
A rare depiction of Scaroth depicted him being faced by Anubis and Khnum. (DW: City of Death)
Anubis' name was also used for a planet of jackal-headed humanoids. What connection they might have had to the Osirian was unknown. (K9TV: Curse of Anubis)
Behind the scenes
- The Fifth Doctor's claim that Anubis was king of the dead was contradicted elsewhere in the novel where Osiris is given the title. However, in the real world and in-universe this might refer to Anubis' role before Sutekh killed his brother.
- Duamutef was actually the god depicted on the canopic jar.
