Seasons 3 and 4 of Torchwood (Children of Earth and Miracle Day) were my first foray into the Whoverse. I watched these because I remember hearing some big deal about 'Torchwood' being this acclaimed British TV series and stuff, and a marathon of it was on TV one Sunday, so I watched both seasons in one sitting, pretty epic.
Anyway, I had heard of Dr. Who before, but I didn't actually know that Torchwood was related to it. But then Jack Harkness made these references (could've sworn it was more than once) to "the Doctor". Just the way he emphasized it, and said it without a name like that... well I knew enough of Doctor Who to know that "the Doctor" is what everyone called the character, so it clicked for me.
Anyway, I seem to recall one episode where Harkness is basically being mopey and stuff, and suddenly you hear the sounds that the Tardis makes when it travels, and you see Jack staring at something offscreen with lights flashing on his face, and then he is gone.
Did this happen during Seasons 3 or 4? I seem to have it in my head that it happened during the season finale of one or the other, but I can't find a mention of it.
Is it possible that this actually happened in season 1 or 2? I think I may have seen an isolated episode or two out of those seasons, so maybe I am misremembering it?
I have not seen much of the Doctor Who series, but I did see a huge chunk of Series 1, the 2000s relaunch, with the Ninth Doctor. I don't think that whole series, but the better half anyway. I saw a couple with the newest (Eleventh Doctor but the 9th is the one I guess I visually identify him with for the moment.
Anyway that was when Harkness was introduced, and I finally got to see that episode with the Bad Wolf entity and stuff. Harkness had made veiled references to his immortality in Torchwood but I didn't really understand them until seeing that storyline.
So anyway, what I'm wondering is, does anyone know when that scene occured, or has that happened multiple times? Jack knew the Doctor as looking like the 9th, so has he met either the 10th or 11th incarnations? Did he have to have the change in appearance explained to him? +Yc 05:44, September 26, 2012 (UTC)
- You're thinking of End of Days, the series 1 finale, which ends with Jack hearing the sound of the TARDIS. Any further answers would ruin several surprises. I'll just say that the original broadcast order is this:
- Series 1 of DW
- Series 2 of DW
- Series 1 of TW
- Series 3 of DW
- Series 2 of TW
- Series 4 of DW
- Series 3 of TW
- Series 5 of DW
- Series 6 of DW
- Series 4 of TW
- Series 7 of DW
- You haven't hurt yourself too badly by watching Series 3 and 4 of TW before the earlier stuff, but to answer your questions and to preserve the surprises, you should now go back to the top of the list and move forward.
