Kithriarch

Kithriarch was a title in Time Lord society given to the head of each of the families of the Great Houses (NA: Lungbarrow). The Kithriarch was not the same as the Housekeeper who was responislbe for the well-being of the House itself. The Kithriarch was responsible for the social well-being of each family member.

The position of Kithriarch was retained through regenerations. At the time of the Kithriarch's final death, he would name his successor.

The following is purely speculation which may be disproved in the future.

Although the only known Kithriarch (and his chosen successor) were male, there is nothing to indicate a woman could not hold this title. However, it is strongly implied that only a woman could be a Housekeeper, and as the roles of Housekeeper and Kithriarch go hand-in-hand, Kithriarch most likely was a role filled only by men.
