A Starman was a being born from a collapsed star, with a primitive consciousness. Starmen could travel through space and time on the energy they received from eating stars.
The Ninth Doctor stated that if left unchecked, a Starman could escape from its own time and rewrite not only history, but the laws of science as well. (PROSE: The Beast of Babylon)
