The third incarnation of Romanadvoratrelundar (Romana), was more ruthless than her first and second incarnations.
Profile
Romana had by this time became War Queen and President of the Nine Gallifreys. She regenerated knowing that she would need a harder personality for the upcoming War with The Enemy. As a result she became less friendly towards the Doctor.
Physically, she resembled a beautiful dark-haired woman. (EDA: The Shadows of Avalon)
- After the end of the War with the Enemy, Romana's fate remains unknown. The Doctor, however, seemed certain that no Time Lords other than himself had survived the Last Great Time War.
Behind the Scenes
The Eighth Doctor Adventures writers involved based Romana III's described appearance on that of the American silent film actress Louise Brooks.
The canonicity of the Romana III is, like most other elements of spin-off fiction, uncertain, and may depend on whether the character ever appears in the revived TV series (either in her second incarnation as played by Lalla Ward, or in a new incarnation). To date the only direct reference to Romana in the revived franchise is a brief reference to her in IDW: The Forgotten, a comic book mini-series, in which the Tenth Doctor says Romana "did quite well for herself ... until the Time War". The comic gives no clue as to whether the Doctor is referring to Romana III or the second incarnation.
