Private Jim Higson was a soldier who went to India under Captain Hertford. After Hertford was bitten by an animal, he brought the captain back to England and protected him. He was bitten and was about to turn into an animal himself, when Henry Gordon Jago shot him in the head at his request, not wanting to be seen as a monster by his sister Ellie.
