Bruno Walter was the leader of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra in the early 20th century. He was Jewish, so when the Nazis gained control of Germany, he fled to Austria, and then to America. Hans Engel's dream was to play cello under him. He was succeeded by Abendroth. (COMIC: The Instruments of War)
