The Battle of Bannerman Road was to have been the final story of Series 5 (excluding the Halloween specials) of The Sarah Jane Adventures. However, due to the death of Elisabeth Sladen in April 2011, only half of the series was filmed, resulting in The Man Who Never Was being the final story of the series. Had the three remaining episodes been completed, this would have made the milestone of being the thirtieth TV story of The Sarah Jane Adventures.
The Trickster would have returned in the story. It would have been revealed that he had instilled his essence in Sky Smith at the moment of her creation, and manipulated events so she would end up with Sarah Jane. He would then awaken Sky's "Trickster" half, and use her to attack Sarah Jane. He would then activate his plan and turn Sarah Jane's attic into a tower and take over the world; Sky would later destroy him and guard his prison. Ace, Jo and Santiago Jones, Professor Rivers and the Shopkeeper and (and most likely Captain as well as the Shopkeeper) would also have returned in this story.
