Sonning Palace was a bishop's palace in England. It was situated on the bank of the River Thames.
After her husband King Richard II was deposed in 1399, Queen Isabella was imprisoned in the palace. The First Doctor, Ian Chesterton, Barbara Wright and Vicki Pallister met her there in 1400 and attended the bishop's Epiphany feast. The Doctor presided as the Lord of Misrule, but the festivities were interrupted by the arrival of Archbishop Arundel. Isabella was eventually released by the new king, Henry IV.
