Professor Livesy-Smythe was a human responsible for a British archaeological survey of Rome in 1923 — a survey which the Torchwood Institute monitored. This expedition turned up a scroll by Caecilius describing the true fate of Pompeii on 24 August 79. This alerted Torchwood to the existence of the Pyroviles. (WC: Captain Jack's Monster Files)
