The Freedom Corporation was set up by the Master in 1936 as part of a plan to get out of jail if he was ever caught and imprisoned on Earth.
He hypnotised hundreds of people to act as a distraction when he escaped from prison. At the same time, he used the corporation to claim to make a time machine, the Freedom 1b. The Freedom 1b was used to transport the Third Doctor and Jo Grant to the construct, trapping them there.
