On Pete's World, Cybus Industries was a global mega-corporation which by 1996 had swallowed all competition. (WC: Tardisode 5, PROSE: The Time Traveller's Almanac) By 2007, the corporation had a complete monopoly on technology on the parallel world, and influence that was judged to be more powerful than governments. It was this power which allowed CEO John Lumic to initiate his "Ultimate Upgrade™ project" which created the Cybermen, resulting in millions of humans being converted and a global war between humans and Cybermen. (TV: Rise of the Cybermen, The Age of Steel, Doomsday.)
