Fernanda was the mother of Maria Gonzalez and grandmother of Gabby and Blanca Gonzalez and their younger brother.

She and her husband Juan raised a family of fifteen in Mexico while living in a one-room shack.

After she lost her husband, she often said: "No song should end too soon." Gabby repeated these words during a farewell with the Tenth Doctor.
