James Ellis (15 March 1931-8 March 2014[1]) played Peter Warmsly in the Doctor Who television story Battlefield.

He is best known for playing Inspector Lynch in over six hundred episodes of Z-Cars, a role he played for sixteen years. He made guest appearances on television shows such as The Bill, All Creatures Great and Small and Softly, Softly.
