User talk:Vincent VG

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference
Welcome to the Tardis:About Vincent VG

Thanks for your edits! We hope you'll keep on editing with us. This is a great time to have joined us, because now you can play the Game of Rassilon with us and win cool stuff! Well, okay, badges. That have no monetary value. And that largely only you can see. But still: they're cool!

We've got a couple of important quirks for a Wikia wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.
British English, please
We generally use British English round these parts, so if you're American, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.
Spoilers aren't cool
We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.
Other useful stuff
Aside from those two things, we also have some pages that you should probably read when you get a chance, like:

If you're brand new to wiki editing — and we all were, once! —  you probably want to check out these tutorials at Wikipedia, the world's largest wiki:

Remember that you should always sign your comments on talk and vote pages using four tildes like this:

Thanks for becoming a member of the TARDIS crew! If you have any questions, see the Help pages, add a question to one of the Forums or ask on my talk page. Doug86 23:40, September 21, 2013 (UTC)

Christmas cheeredit source

Happy holidays!

As this fiftieth anniversary year comes to a close, we here at Tardis just want to thank you for being a part of our community — even if you haven't edited here in a while. If you have edited with us this year, then thanks for all your hard work.

This year has seen an impressive amount of growth. We've added about 11,000 pages this year, which is frankly incredible for a wiki this big. November was predictably one of the busiest months we've ever had: over 500 unique editors pitched in. It was the highest number of editors in wiki history for a year in which only one programme in the DWU was active. And our viewing stats have been through the roof. We've averaged well over 2 million page views each week for the last two months, with some weeks seeing over 4 million views!

We've received an unprecedented level of support from Wikia Staff, resulting in all sorts of new goodies and productive new relationships. And we've recently decided to lift almost every block we've ever made so as to allow most everyone a second chance to be part of our community.

2014 promises to build on this year's foundations, especially since we've got a full, unbroken series coming up — something that hasn't happened since 2011. We hope you'll stick with us — or return to the Tardis — so that you can be a part of the fun!

Imagesedit source

Hi! I appreciate your attempts to fill out some of the crew pages, but all of your images had to be deleted because you had not put a license on any of them. All images uploaded to this wiki must have a license. In addition, at least one of your images was very fuzzy; we would rather have no image on an article than a low quality one. Please take some time to read our image policies, which are conveniently located at Thread:148148. Thanks! Shambala108 14:22, March 5, 2014 (UTC)

Blockedit source

Hi! Since you have continued to add images with no licenses, I've had to block you for six hours to give you a chance to read the above mentioned image policies. Please take this time to read the image policies. This block is mostly a way to get your attention, and it will expire in 6 hours. Shambala108 18:20, March 5, 2014 (UTC)

Images revisitededit source

As I have said twice before, please read through all of our image policies, which are located at Thread:148148. Once again I have had to spend a lot of time deleting your images and cleaning up your edits.

Per our image policies, users are only allowed to upload 3 user images; you uploaded several. In addition, user images are not allowed anywhere except on user pages. I don't know if you added the wrong license, or just didn't bother to read the policies, but I suggest you do so before uploading any more images. Thanks. Shambala108 19:55, December 16, 2014 (UTC)

Imagesedit source

When you upload images to the wiki, you must add a category, not just the license. Usually you can add a category for the story name, for example, Category:The Web of Fear TV story images. Also, images must fit widescreen dimensions, so you need to crop them that way. Thanks. Shambala108 23:22, July 20, 2016 (UTC)

Since you have a history (as seen on your talk page) of failing to follow image policies without a little push, I'm blocking you for a week. Please be sure to read our image policies, which you can find listed at Thread:148148, before you upload any more images. Shambala108 23:14, July 21, 2016 (UTC)

Image namesedit source

Be careful when naming images you upload. You can only use an existing name if the image is basically the same as the original name. The image you uploaded of Frazier Hines was substantially different from the original. Therefore, I reverted the image to the original, deleting yours.

If you're going to use such a basic name for an image, do a search first to make sure there are no existing files with the same name. You can re-upload the Frazier Hines image with a new name, such as FrazierHines2 or something like that. Shambala108 14:32, October 5, 2016 (UTC)

Infobox imagesedit source

Please stop adding "|thumb" after images on infoboxes. It does nothing. I just removed the last 189 instances of that with my bot.

On a good note, though, that is a lot of new infobox images, if that's all you. Thanks for your contributions.

Blockedit source

Since I've had to delete about twenty-five images you uploaded in the last couple of days, and there were at least four different violations, and you've had six messages on your talk page asking you to read our image policies, I'm blocking you for a month. That should give you time to read through all the policies which you can find conveniently located at Thread:148148. Shambala108 02:29, November 1, 2016 (UTC)

Congrats and cast notesedit source

First off, congratulations on getting over 2k edits.

Secondly, I've noticed you've been doing a lot of work on cast lists for the classic series. I have a small ask in this respect. And I apologise that I only noticed it now. But I still hope it would be nothing compared with the original research that must have gone into that. I would ask you to help uphold the exact distinction between recurring and guest casts.

Take, for instance, Season 2. The Monk here is a recurring character because he returns in Season 3 in TV: The Daleks' Master Plan. Similarly, Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart is recurring in Season 5 (and all consecutive seasons he occurs) but Bret Vyon is not recurring in Season 3. Further, it might be less obvious but William Shakespeare in Season 2 is recurring due to TV: The Shakespeare Code, and so is Elizabeth I.

Since you're now fresh from all these lists, I would appreciate it if you could make the necessary modifications. Amorkuz 23:54, May 30, 2017 (UTC)

vandalismedit source

Hi, please don't encourage vandalism by replying to it. Instead, let an admin know about it. Thanks, Shambala108 05:55, August 28, 2017 (UTC)

Categoriesedit source

Hi, please note that when you create a page, you must add at least one category to it. Don't just create a bunch of pages and leave it for someone else to clean up after you. Thanks, Shambala108 14:26, September 8, 2017 (UTC)

Questionedit source

Why have you been removing the "Jane" from articles with Sarah Jane in?BananaClownMan 18:55, September 18, 2017 (UTC)

Uncategorised Screenshotsedit source

Hi, it would be appreciated if you could take a look at Tardis:Uncategorised screenshots. Most of the recent uploads have been of real world people by yourself and I have no idea where you source your images. Thanks! --Borisashton 06:29, March 19, 2018 (UTC)

Sorry to bother you again but another couple of your uploads have slipped onto Tardis:Uncategorised screenshots. --Borisashton 17:31, May 18, 2018 (UTC)

Moving pagesedit source

Hi, I'm sorry to have to remind you not to move pages on your own. I understand the urgency of this particular move and I would have moved it for you post-haste upon direct request. Please know that I would always make moves a priority for newly created pages because it saves a lot of work later. To underscore why only admin should be moving pages, I would ask you to take a look at all the pages still linking to the wrong name: Special:WhatLinksHere/Everyone_Loves_Reagan_(audio_story). I know that regular users are not able to delete the redirect, but it also cannot be expected that a regular user would clean up the links after a move. I hope that we will not need to return to this topic and that you will trust the admin to do their job in the future. Amorkuz 21:28, August 21, 2018 (UTC)

Birth/death datesedit source

Right now I'm struggling to find the exact policy page, but something among the top of Tardis:Valid sources and (more or less) T:LIVING PEOPLE explain it. Quoting the former, it's equally important to know what sources you can use. After all, some girl in South Dakota writing on ilovetennant.blogspot.com shouldn't be considered a valid source for our article about David Tennant. Obviously, Wikipedia and IMDB aren't just any from "some girl in South Dakota", but, as anyone can edit the information on these site, "some girl in South Dakota" could simply go and say that, for example, David Tennant's birthday is 25 January 1982 rather than 18 April 1971. And if we use that we'd be spreading false information.

It's different from sources like reference books, biographies (note that autobiographies would also de ruled out per T:NO SELF REF) a news article or an internet post from a reliable source: those are more or less set in stone (specially if it comes from a printed source). If we were to find that information was wrong, we'd be able to show a credible source to that mistake, not just some random person in the internet who decided to post the information on IMDB or Wikipedia.

If you wish, we can go to an admin to check whether there is some policy explicitly saying this explanation, but that's the general ideia. I even recall that once, a page claimed (with no sources) a crew member dying years before a story they were in being produced. OncomingStorm12th 23:40, November 3, 2018 (UTC)

Aaand nevermind, Tardis:Valid sources do say this explicitly, in the T:RW SRC section: Finally, user-editable sources such as Wikipedia, the Internet Movie Database and this very wiki are to be avoided, as are sites that are built on largely un-edited user contributions, such as the Doctor Who Reference Guide. OncomingStorm12th 23:43, November 3, 2018 (UTC)
Indeed, neither IMDb nor Wikipedia are considered reliable sources on the wiki and cannot be used for sourcing information. I'm sorry to hear that your efforts have been in vain. But it is more important to avoid incorrect information. Amorkuz 00:26, November 4, 2018 (UTC)
Hi, I know you've already been given a lot of info on this question, but if you take a look at Talk:Shaila Bux, you will see why our policies are so strict and specific. Thanks, Shambala108 01:03, November 4, 2018 (UTC)

Given that three people (2 of whom are admins) have bothered to inform you that all birth/death dates must be properly sourced, and yet you've continued to add unsourced birth/death dates, you have been blocked for one week. Shambala108 22:50, November 10, 2018 (UTC)

Infobox Imagesedit source

As was echoed by SOTO in 2016, can you please stop adding "|thumb" to infobox images. It's not necessary and all the pages you do this on require cleanup. Thanks. --Borisashton 12:48, December 8, 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for implementing these changes. Just another little note: in most instances the underscores you add in between words can just be replaced with spaces. Thanks again for listening. --Borisashton 20:17, December 11, 2018 (UTC)

Feature recalledit source

Hi, I've noticed you have been working on the "Featuring" field in story infoboxes. I'm afraid, you're misinterpreting its purpose. To the best of my understanding, you have been adding there the most prominent characters of each story. However, it is intended for a different purpose:

Recurring / guest characters, returning Doctors and companions. This is where Jackie and Francine and Sylvia would go for most stories.Purpose of "Featuring" in infoboxes [Template:Infobox Story/doc/TV story [src]]

In other words, a character should be added into an infobox only if they can be known to a reader from another story, possibly from another franchise (as allowed by "guest character" part). Slightly stretching the envelope, I would also include here famous real-world people. But not main protagonists of the story itself. I would greatly appreciate it if you could adjust your edits (including the past edits on First Doctor stories) accordingly. Thank you in advance, and happy editing! Re: River Songedit source

Mission accomplished. Shambala108 21:32, August 27, 2019 (UTC)

Hi, sure thing, I'll take care of it tonight. Shambala108 17:07, September 18, 2019 (UTC)
Hi can you confirm for me which is the correct title you need? Is it supposed to be "Earth" or "Mirth"? Thanks Shambala108 01:27, September 19, 2019 (UTC)

Full Circle Imageedit source

Your recently-uploaded Full Circle image appears to have uploaded wrong… one can only see a distorted pale gray rectangle where the image ought to be. --Scrooge MacDuck 12:32, September 15, 2019 (UTC)

Birth/death datesedit source

As has been discussed at this very talk page little more than a year ago, please stop adding birth/death dates to cast and crew members on XXXX (people) pages without sources. In the past, this has already resulted in a two week block.

These pages and policies were already pointed out back then, but you might want to revisit Talk: Shaila Bux and T:RW SRC to see why all birth/death dates must have sources, and which website are not valid sources for them. OncomingStorm12th (talk) 22:57, February 2, 2020 (UTC)

Author page editsedit source

Out of curiosity, on Philip Purser-Hallard, why did you move his Faction Paradox short stories so far down the page, when his first FP short story chronologically predated his stories for Short Trips, Bernice Summerfield, and Iris Wildthyme? – N8 (/👁️) 14:11, February 23, 2020 (UTC)

Re: John Burtedit source

Hi, I added a rename tag to John Burt. I didn't just move it because the links need to be changed first. In the future, if you see a page that needs renaming, you can add the Rename tag to it.

As for your other questions, I don't usually check the edits or uploads of users who know the rules, so I'm not sure which edits you're referring to. If you could give me a couple of specific instances where I removed an image and/or infobox, I can look into it. Thanks Shambala108 01:15, June 9, 2020 (UTC)

Future releasesedit source

Hi, I'll be vague to keep in line with T:SPOIL. I published my edits at List of future Big Finish releases within seconds of you creating that spoilery page. I wasn't intending on shouldering in on your editing, but I offer my apologies nevertheless. Anyway, how do you know there are six stories? I mean, we know there are nine hours worth of stories, but they could easily be split into any combination of 1/2/3 hours per story. Cheers, Danochy 12:07, August 1, 2020 (UTC)

Novelisation categoriesedit source

Hi. I noticed that you have been adding categories to a lot of the novelisations, mainly the "Target novelisations with audiobook readings" category. But this category (as well as a couple of other categories you have added) is already included within other categories on the novelisation pages, such as "UNIT Collection novels", "The Earth Adventures Novels" and so forth, so wouldn't that make it redundant to list it as a separate category? I just wanted to check, as you have made a lot of edits and I didn't want to undo them without being sure there wasn't something I was missing (I have been caught out on that before).

I hope that all made sense. LauraBatham 08:30, August 7, 2020 (UTC)

Spoilersedit source

Please remember to hide away the spoilery releases when creating a magazine article, such as you did for DWM 555. Even if they are discussed in the magazine, and the magazine has been released, the stories still haven't, so T:SPOIL still applies to them. Please see this edit to see how to deal with the spoilers. OncomingStorm12th 17:02, August 29, 2020 (UTC)

Invalid Storiesedit source

Invalid stories shouldn’t be placed on LOA pages. Also, the Lockdown fan entires are being debated as a whole. PoolsideJazz 16:48, November 23, 2020 (UTC)

Lists of appearancesedit source

Hey! Please stop adding Fan Gallery stories to lists of appearances. The thing is, all those stories are invalid. (I mean, to be honest, they might not even stay on the Wiki at all in the near future, but that's irrelevant.) And invalid stories do not belong on lists of appearances under current policy. --Scrooge MacDuck 16:51, November 23, 2020 (UTC)

Image licensesedit source

Hi. Please remember to add licenses to all images you upload. Several images you've added today and yesterday lack them. OncomingStorm12th 15:25, 27 November 2020 (UTC)

Time Fractureedit source

Hey! Keep in mind that Time Fracture is not considered a valid source at this time, and thus should not appear in the lists of appearances of valid characters. Scrooge MacDuck 10:53, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

Imagesedit source

Hi, I've noticed a few of the images you added recently don't comply with the wiki policies. Please read through the text at the beginning of Special:Upload, specially the "images can be no bigger than 100 kb — that's kilobytes" and the "* files must be appropriately licensed". OncomingStorm12th 23:11, 9 July 2021 (UTC)

To add to that, I've just deleted over sixty images that you uploaded without licenses. There are apparently many more that you recently uploaded that I don't have time to get to now. I suggest you add licenses to those because otherwise I will delete them when I have more time. I can understand forgetting occasionally to add a license (in spite of the pop up box asking you for a license when you upload) but this many is unacceptable, especially for an editor of your experience on this wiki. Shambala108 23:05, 23 July 2021 (UTC)

"Collection Trailers"edit source

It is the Wiki's current understanding that e.g. Ace Returns! and The Promise are different entities — the former is the webcast containing the Collection trailer and the narrative of The Promise (in the way a Comic Relief special might contain both a Doctor Who minisode and some interviews with real-world individuals). Therefore the navigation you tried to introduce was doubly misguided — first because The Promise, Risen, etc. are not themselves "trailers" (they were just released in conjunction with trailers), and second, because you were mixing the webcasts-including-trailers with the stories. Scrooge MacDuck 12:36, 8 October 2021 (UTC)

The Three Mylesedit source

Hi. I left this on my first edit summary, but since I reverted a few edits it might get lost in them, so I preferred to bring this here as well. Long story short: please always keep credits exactly as given on the book/box-set/TV credits/etc (the exception being, of course, of transgender people who came out after a publication was made, but that's not really the case here).

That is, mostly, in vein of Tardis:Names of actors and all other credit policies. For example, it makes it immediately obvious which is the most prolific usage of credits for said person across their DWU contributions. Before I moved Myles to the current Lizbeth Myles, it resided over at LM Myles. If we linked to that even on recent releases, I'd never have noticed the pattern of all her recent credits being her full name, and thus wouldn't be able to perform the move.

Now, let's imagine she decided that, from today, she wants to be credited as Liz Myles and Liz Myles only. If we keep linking to her full name on these (hypothetical) new releases, it will be much harder to notice this pattern. Anyway, in the future, please keep links to the redirects for Myles and other similar contributors (for another example, see how we still link to Jenna-Louise Coleman for Series 7 and Jenna Coleman for everything else). OncomingStorm12th 21:28, 22 February 2022 (UTC) ]

Vortexedit source

Hi. Please stop removing content from the Vortex pages when the releases come out. They should instead be unhidden (even the non DWU ones). OncomingStorm12th 16:04, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

BBC Books by yearedit source

Hi Vincent VG, I've created a navigation template Template:BBC books years; in the same style as Template:Target years; and made the pages for BBC Books (2005) through BBC Books (2013), as this is my main era of interest.

As you've recently been editing Target Books (1973), Target Books (1974) etc. I was wondering if you could help to fill out the pages from 1996-2004 / 2014-2022, I would be very grateful.

Thanks. Doc77can 16:51, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

For(u)m Letteredit source

Hey there, I hope your Halloween was decent. As you might know, we've not had forums for over two years at this point. A few of the regular editors have been having a discussion on this topic at Forum talk:Index and we'd like the input of other prominent editors if you have the inclination. Cheers. BBC DVD coversedit source

Hi, I've been gathering every BBC DVD cover image on the wiki into one of my sandboxes, in order to see where there are any missing covers or duplicates.

Pop over and have a look, and feel free to upload any of the missing covers.

User:Doc77can/sandbox12

P.S. I'm messaging several users so check the upload log first.

File sizesedit source

Hi, there. I can see that the admins have told you multiple times about uploading images and that you're still uploading images bigger than 100 KB. I'm going through your uploads now to shrink them and I hope you'll stop. Jack "BtR" Saxon 17:08, 1 December 2022 (UTC)

Silver and Ice / Sullivan and Cross - AWOLedit source

Hey. Please don't create categories for Category:Silver and Ice audio stories, Category:Sullivan and Cross - AWOL audio stories, or any simmilarly-2-story-anthologies. Except in certain cases, categories must have three members..

As detailed in the policy page. This is not one of the exceptions. OncomingStorm12th 18:56, 7 April 2023 (UTC)

Duplicatesedit source

Hi, there. Instead of creating duplicate pages like The Seventh Doctor 2023B (audio anthology) and The Last Day 1 (audio anthology), could you just move the older page to its new name? Jack "BtR" Saxon 08:14, 5 July 2023 (UTC)

Infoboxesedit source

Hi there,

When you are creating pages, please could you use Infobox Story SMW instead of Infobox Story. We are switching over to the former from the latter to facilitate Cite source, the new citation template. It means that others don't have to go through the pages and change them.
