The High Place was the first settlement of the Mal'akh on Earth, founded thousands or millions of years before the modern era. It was discovered by Richard Francis Burton and John Hanning Speke in their 1857 mission to the Mountains of the Moon. Due to their long isolation from the world, the Mal'akh of the city had fed on each other for generations, producing a small civilisation of monstrosities. They inspired Burton to coin the term "grotesques" in an entry in the Liber Sanguisugarum.
The Book of Enoch described Azazel's group of two-hundred rebellious Anakim as having come from "the high place". (PROSE: The Book of the War)
