::Best to mostly wait for the admin above to bring in the proper threads as citations, but if you're burning to know, I believe the basics is that (being a VR game) The Edge of Time naturally posits that you, the player, are the hero. As such, even if the rest of the story is linear, the identity of the main character is variable, and that's obviously variability enough to declare the story invalid. --Scrooge MacDuck ☎ 18:41, November 16, 2019 (UTC) | ::Best to mostly wait for the admin above to bring in the proper threads as citations, but if you're burning to know, I believe the basics is that (being a VR game) The Edge of Time naturally posits that you, the player, are the hero. :::I hope it's not the reason because, by that logic, You Are the Doctor (audio story) should not be valid.RingoRoadagain ☎ 18:49, November 16, 2019 (UTC) | :::I hope it's not the reason because, by that logic, You Are the Doctor (audio story) should not be valid.RingoRoadagain ☎ 18:49, November 16, 2019 (UTC) | ||
::::Shmabala will probably explain it better than me when she comes back, but it seems to me that as the title states, You Are the Doctor never actually leaves any doubt as to the main character's identity. It puts you in the Doctor's shoes, but doesn't posit that the Doctor looks like you, let alone is you. Whereas if I, Scrooge MacDuck, played The Edge of Time, the narrative conceit would be that I, myself, this human being, have been given a mission by the Doctor. I'm sure if the game (even still with a first-person POV) was titled You Are Amy Pond, it'd be fine. --Scrooge MacDuck ☎ 18:59, November 16, 2019 (UTC) |
