:: I'm not familiar with the story, but it's certainly a fair inference. Our page for another fictional DG, [[Director-General (Not So Much a Programme, More a Way of Life)]], uses the full title and the acronym interchangeably. I think readers of the comic were probably expected to understand who the DG is to get the joke, same as they'd be expected to understand that Tom is Tom Baker contextually.
