Brian Hodgson (born June 1938[1]) provided the special sounds, or sound effects, for Doctor Who beginning with An Unearthly Child and ending with The Sea Devils, after which he was succeeded by Dick Mills, although he did return to work on Carnival of Monsters. He is credited with creating the distinctive sound of the TARDIS dematerialising, which has been used throughout the Doctor Who television series. Hodgson appeared in the documentaries The Story of Doctor Who and Talking Daleks. His other major credits include the music and sound effects for The Tomorrow People and The Legend of Hell House.
