Clive Merrison (born 15 September 1945[1]) played Jim Callum in The Tomb of the Cybermen and the Deputy Chief Caretaker in Paradise Towers. He also voiced Sir Frederick Maltravers in the BBV Productions audio story The Barnacled Baby and George Augustus in the Big Finish Doctor Who audio story The Contingency Club.
Merrison has had several recurring roles on television, e.g. Reilly, Ace of Spies (as Boris the Russian), Kit Curran (as Damien Appleby) and The Borgias (as Ascanio Forza). One-off appearances include the likes of Yes, Prime Minister, Foyle's War, The Bill and Peep Show.
Merrison's theatre appearances include The Madness of George III at the Royal National Theatre, The Front Page at the Old Vic and Much Ado About Nothing for the Royal Shakespeare Company.[2]
On radio he has played Sherlock Holmes, a role played in other media by Peter Cushing, Tom Baker, Jonathan Pryce and Nicholas Briggs. (He is said[by whom?] to be the the only actor to have portrayed the character in the entire Conan Doyle canon of "Sherlock Holmes" stories.)
He also played the character "Tanaka" in a radio adaptation of the James Bond novel You Only Live Twice, which starred Michael Jayston as Bond.[3]
