Tairngire was a peaceful human colony world. It was settled after the colonists landed there in the 24th century. The capital was New Byzantium and it was ruled by the Prefect of New Byzantium. Amongst its attractions were a Lantern Market, an undersea centre and an Unreality Park. It also contained oil fields. The Seventh Doctor, Ace and Bernice Summerfield visited the planet in 2673.
