Johnny Ringo was a gunfighter and outlaw. He had been acquainted with Kate Fisher before she became involved with Doc Holliday. He spent two years tracking them both, eventually tracing them to Tombstone in October 1881. He was promptly hired by Pa Clanton to help his sons kill Holliday, replacing Seth Harper, who had been killed by Holliday. He eventually found Kate and believed her when she said Holliday had left for New Mexico with another woman, the First Doctor's companion Dodo Chaplet.
