User talk:Gusthegreat
Thanks for your edits! We hope you'll keep on editing with us. This is a great time to have joined us, because now you can play the Game of Rassilon with us and win cool stuff! Well, okay, badges. That have no monetary value. And that largely only you can see. But still: they're cool!
We've got a couple of important quirks for a Wikia wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.
British English, please
We generally use British English round these parts, so if you're American, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.
Spoilers aren't cool
We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.
Other useful stuff
Aside from those two things, we also have some pages that you should probably read when you get a chance, like:
- the listing of all our help, policy and guideline pages
- our Manual of Style
- our image use policy
- our user page policy
- a list of people whose job it is to help you
If you're brand new to wiki editing — and we all were, once! — you probably want to check out these tutorials at Wikipedia, the world's largest wiki:
Remember that you should always sign your comments on talk and vote pages using four tildes like this:Thanks for becoming a member of the TARDIS crew! If you have any questions, see the Help pages, add a question to one of the Forums or ask on my talk page. Doug86 ☎ 20:47, June 3, 2015 (UTC)
Creating new pages[[edit source]]
Hi! Thanks for your recent additions to the wiki. I have to ask, however, that you browse the wiki in general and the Tardis:Tardis Manual in particular for guidelines on how we write articles. I don't want to throw a lot of rules at you, but the pages you created need some work to match our other pages. Thanks! Shambala108 ☎ 16:03, June 7, 2015 (UTC)
- Please read the following policy pages before you create any more pages:
- All pages must follow these policies. Thanks. Shambala108 ☎ 02:55, June 11, 2015 (UTC)
Actor birth and death dates[[edit source]]
Hi! Please note that we prefer to have sources for all actor/crew birth and death dates. It's true that you will find some pages on the wiki that have unsourced dates, but a fairly recent decision was made to require sources. Please see Tardis:Valid sources#Out-of-universe sources for details. Thanks! Shambala108 ☎ 02:12, June 10, 2015 (UTC)
Uncredited cast/crew[[edit source]]
Hi! Please do not add uncredited work to cast/crew pages unless you properly source them. Thanks! Shambala108 ☎ 20:58, June 10, 2015 (UTC)
Edits[[edit source]]
I have addressed several issues with your edits on this wiki, and you have either not seen my posts, or have chosen to ignore them. Please take some time to read all of the messages I left for you and all of the policies I've linked. I've had to undo the majority of your edits, and frankly, I have better things to do on this wiki than clean up after someone who isn't learning how to use the wiki. If you want your work on this wiki to last, you must follow our policies. Thanks. Shambala108 ☎ 03:14, June 15, 2015 (UTC)
- Once again I have to remind you to follow our policies. You must not add unsourced birth/death dates to real world articles. In addition, you must properly link your sources.
- Please read through the following policies:
- Please note that I have tried cleaning up after your edits, and you have undone at least one of my cleanups. Therefore I have been undoing your edits that don't follow policy. If you want your work to last on this wiki, you must follow our policies. Thanks. Shambala108 ☎ 03:32, June 20, 2015 (UTC)
Block[[edit source]]
I've had to block you for a week. By my count, I've told you twice not to add unsourced birth/death dates to actor/crew pages, yet you are still doing it. Please spend this week reviewing all of the policies posted here on your talk page. Shambala108 ☎ 01:59, June 24, 2015 (UTC)
Editing[[edit source]]
Hi! I need you to take a break from editing and thoroughly review Tardis:Game of Rassilon rules. Many of your edits are in violation of these rules. You are making minor edits that do not improve the quality of the edit, and sometimes even change the meaning or violate policy, just for the purpose of earning badges/points. This is against policy. Thanks. Shambala108 ☎ 16:18, July 9, 2015 (UTC)
- do you ever notice that he has never replied to you on the talk page despite all the previous warnings and block you gave him? either he's ignoring what you say or he doesn't even bother to check his talk page for messages if this is the case give him no more warnings and just block him the next time he does it. --0551E80Y ☎ 17:52, July 10, 2015 (UTC)
Pipe switching[[edit source]]
Hi! Please do not edit articles solely to pipe switch story titles. It is wiki policy to allow redirects for story titles. Thanks. Shambala108 ☎ 01:45, July 12, 2015 (UTC)
Unsourced dates[[edit source]]
Please explain to me why you keep adding unsourced birth and death dates to actor/crew pages. I've explained to you more than once that you must have sources for these dates, but you have ignored my instructions.
Please don't think that the existence of unsourced dates on this wiki means that it's OK to add more. The unsourced dates need to be removed and it's a big job, so no one has gotten around to doing it yet. You are adding even more work by adding these unsourced dates. Shambala108 ☎ 14:46, July 20, 2015 (UTC)
- i already said "do you ever notice that he has never replied to you on the talk page despite all the previous warnings and block you gave him? either he's ignoring what you say or he doesn't even bother to check his talk page for messages if this is the case give him no more warnings and just block him the next time he does it" --0551E80Y ☎ 13:49, July 23, 2015 (UTC)
Categories[[edit source]]
Hi! I need you to stop adding categories to pages for now until you understand our category system. You have added redundant categories to multiple pages. Please read through the policies located at Category:Categorisation. Thanks. Shambala108 ☎ 03:55, August 11, 2015 (UTC)
- Since you've ignored my instructions to stop adding categories, I am giving you a two week block to allow you time to read our category policies and understand them thoroughly. Shambala108 ☎ 17:16, August 13, 2015 (UTC)
Created pages[[edit source]]
Hi! Please make sure you are familiar with our naming policies, which you can find at Category:Naming conventions , before you create pages. I've had to move "Sergeant to Benik" to Sergeant (The Enemy of the World) because that is how we name unnamed characters. Thanks. Shambala108 ☎ 18:08, October 19, 2015 (UTC)
Unnamed characters[[edit source]]
Hi! Please make sure when you create pages for unnamed characters that you use a dab term if the article name is one that could appear in several stories. For example, you created "Workman" for The Invasion of Time (TV story), but we already have other workman pages, and they all need to be dabbed so users can find the correct one. In addition, if the page name is a profession, the profession should be the undabbed page so the infobox can link to the profession. Thanks. Shambala108 ☎ 00:35, November 14, 2015 (UTC)

Guard on Denes / Yannos[[edit source]]
Just want to confirm where you got the name "Yannos" from for "Guard on Denes" in The Enemy of the World. Is this from the novelisation?
× SOTO (☎/✍/↯) 04:18, September 5, 2016 (UTC)
- Is it possible his name is Janos/János? https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/J%C3%A1nos#Pronunciation
× SOTO (☎/✍/↯) 15:56, September 5, 2016 (UTC)- Sorry, I forgot to actually say it. Hit the clip there, or the one on YouTube, and you'll hear that Janos - a real name - is pronounced just like that. I have not personally opened the episode in question to check what it sounds like, though / if there is closed captioning.

Valid out of universe sources[[edit source]]
Heya :) Thanks for your recent edits! :) Just wanted to pop by to remind you of T:RW SRC which says that other user-edited websites aren't valid sources here. I noticed at this diff you added a link the Doctor Woo Cast and Crew guide as a source for someone's age. It's really important that we take care with information we put up for real people, as there was at least one lawsuit in the past over IMDb's birth/death information about actors. It can really screw up an actor's employment prospects if their age is given publically -- and especially if that age is wrong. So, by and large, we avoid giving it -- and some users have dedicated time to removing such information. If your only source is a fan-run site like this wiki, please don't put birth/death information on a page. Use only the kinds of sources listed at T:RW SRC. Thanks!

Reversion[[edit source]]
Sorry, I accidentally published my edit on Ian Chesterton before I could leave a summary. The reason I reverted your edit was because the actor in question played Ian in an invalid source. --Borisashton ☎ 22:33, June 27, 2018 (UTC)
For(u)m Letter[[edit source]]
Hey there, I hope your Halloween was decent. As you might know, we've not had forums for over two years at this point. A few of the regular editors have been having a discussion on this topic at Forum talk:Index and we'd like the input of other prominent editors if you have the inclination. Cheers.
