The Gettysburg Address was a speech delivered by President Abraham Lincoln at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on 19 November 1863, at the dedication of the new cemetery to bury the dead of the Battle of Gettysburg. The speech served to redefine the purpose of the Union in fighting the American Civil War against the Confederacy.
