As Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union during the 20th century, (AUDIO: Thin Ice) Kyiv became the site of a battle as part of Nazi Germany's invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941. Huge numbers of Russian soldiers were taken prisoner by the Wehrmacht. (PROSE: Just War)

While no DWU source has used the name "Kyiv", it is matter of respect that this page should follow the wishes of the Ukraine population, as usage of Kiev can be compared to deadnaming.
