A borstal was a prison used to house juvenile inmates. When the Ninth Doctor and Rose Tyler unknowingly trespassed on Justice Alpha they were sentenced to twenty-five years in prison, and Rose was shipped to Justice Beta to begin her sentence in a borstal called Detention Centre 6.
