Bert Taylor was a private in the British Army during World War I. In 1917, he was in Charnage Hospital after being wounded on the front. He wrote to his girlfriend and talked to Dudgeon about his injury and his life. He tried to kill the Seventh Doctor and Ace while sleepwalking. He was dreaming about bayonet practice and the Doctor stopped him. He was later banished to the store rooms, because of his typewriting. He murdered Wood.
