The higher dimensions was defined as a greater reality co-existing with this universe. Its mathematics contains high order infinities. (PROSE: The Brakespeare Voyage)

The Six-Fold-Realm, are the six dimensions that existed outside and beyond the standard five where most corporeal beings dwelled. It was inhabited primarily by transcendental beings like the Eternals, the Chronovores and the Guardians of Time. (PROSE: The Quantum Archangel)

These dimensions were undetectable by third, fourth or fifth dimensional life, or even by a TARDIS. Experimentation about them had been banned on Gallifrey by the Dimensional Ethics Committee. Matter in this universe exposed to the higher dimensions was unpredictably altered, whereas living beings underwent psychological and physiological changes, and were usually driven insane. Some lifeforms, however, like the Old Ones were able to perceive the higher dimensions with less injury.

Ashkellia was built millennia in the past so the Old Ones could explore the higher dimensions. They opened a breach, but the results were disastrous. One of their number, Valdemar, sealed the breach and itself on the other side of it. (PROSE: Tomb of Valdemar)

The Time Vortex, existed within the fifth dimension, (COMIC: Vortex Butterflies) beyond the third- and fourth-dimensional universe, while higher dimensions were infinite in number. (PROSE: The Infernal Nexus)

Beings who came from higher dimensions perceieved lower dimensions like normal people perceieved a painting (PROSE: The Living Image) or a "Saturday morning cartoon". (COMIC: Pull to Open) and thus, they appeared to be "functionally omnipotent" to those who existed in lower dimensions. (COMIC: The Organ Grinder) For example; the Lampreys whose originated from the fifth-dimensional Time Vortex, sees the Multiverse as nothing but food. (PROSE: Spiral Scratch) The Sixth Doctor stated that if parallel universes branching off from the primary are considered to be weeds in the garden, the Chronovores whose originated from the Six-Fold-Realm, are the gardeners. (PROSE: The Quantum Archangel)
