Chronos was a planet, and the location of a temple or palace made entirely of rock and containing a temporal portal, which was used by the original population to travel into the future.
The planet was initially covered in water, but became a desert world devoid of any bodies of water, and was located light-years from a research station.
A day on the planet measured eighteen hours, and at daily intervals a wave of temporal energy washed from the temple, acting like a trawler net that flowed out then receded, dragging anything with it inside the temple.
