A trunk was a large limb extending from the face of a creature which acted both as an arm and a nose. Elephants (PROSE: The Schoolboy's Story) and woolly mammoths had large trunks, (COMIC: Political Animals) and in 2501 the Ninth Doctor encountered an alien named Yahoomer who had four trunks. (PROSE: The Monsters Inside)
