He was, however, best known for his starring acting role as Wallace "Wally" Cleaver, the title character's older brother, on the long-running American situation comedy, Leave It to Beaver (1957-1963). He reprised this role in a reunion special and a sequel series from 1983 to 1989.
Dow was also the visual effects supervisor for Babylon 5, and special effects producer for the sci-fi comedy The Adventures of Captain Zoom in Outer Space. In addition, he directed episodes of Babylon 5, Swamp Thing and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He acted in, wrote, directed and produced many other films, television specials, and series. A former junior Olympics diving champion, he was married twice and was the father of one child.
