Jess was the pet cat of Postman Pat, who took him with him during his rounds as a postman in Greendale.
Biography
During one of Pat's rounds, a young boy walked into Greendale, and was given a parcel by Pat to deliver to Bagpuss & Co., Pat remarking to Jess about what a "nice young man" the boy was. As the boy walked towards Bagpuss & Co., Pat and Jess walked away. (TV: Future Generations)
