Inspector Alfred Mackenzie was a police officer with the Metropolitan Police Service.

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

In 1881, Inspector Mackenzie was summoned to Gabriel Chase by Lady Margaret Pritchard, who reported the disappearance of Sir George Pritchard. The inspector had been speaking to Lady Pritchard (PROSE: Ghost Light) when he was put into a static trance and consigned to a display drawer by Josiah Samuel Smith, becoming one of Gwendoline's favourites in the collection. She believed he had come from Java.

Inspector Mackenzie awoke in September 1883 thanks to the Seventh Doctor. He continued his investigations, unaware that he had been stored away for two years and experiencing a hunger that led him to eat three English breakfasts, two elevenses and one four-course meal. He questioned Ace and Mrs Grose, (TV: Ghost Light) passing his brandy to the latter after she saw Control, (PROSE: Ghost Light) and searched the house for Lady Pritchard. He and Ace found her in the observatory with Josiah's latest husk, Gwendoline and Ernest Matthews. (TV: Ghost Light)

After Light awoke, Inspector Mackenzie ran from Mrs Pritchard, who was intent on recataloguing him. He bumped into Light again and was transformed by him into primordial soup (TV: Ghost Light) which was served at dinner, including his medallion. Josiah referred to him as "the cream of Scotland Yard". (TV: Ghost Light)

Personality[[edit] | [edit source]]

Inspector Mackenzie was a straightforward man whose mind needed solid facts. (PROSE: Ghost Light) He said that gypsies were lazy workers, had bad tempers and no self-control, (TV: Ghost Light) leading the Doctor to assume that he had read about foreigners in London Illustrated News. (PROSE: Ghost Light)

Appearance[[edit] | [edit source]]

Inspector Mackenzie had a handlebar moustache and twinkling blue eyes. (PROSE: Ghost Light)
