The Department of Problem-Solving was a division of the Crew of the Copper-Colored Cupids. Its Prefect was Pythagoras-858 while Juliet-178 was his "trusted second". Carter-1277 was also a member of the Department.

In December 2020, a few days before Christmas, a mysterious gift in shimmering wrapping was found in the Cupid Homeworld, the Problem-Solvers being given the responsibility of deciding the next course of action. With Pythagoras and Juliet away from the Homeworld "on official business", it fell to Carter to examine the gift. Carter quickly opened the present, revealing a large leatherbound book which eventually turned out to be Auteur's Abecedarium. This ended Carter's direct involvement in events, with time-demon Lord Thymon and the Department of Festivities' Celebration-665 summoned to give their opinions on the book after this.
