Judaea

Judaea, later known as Palestine and Israel, was a region on Earth which included Masada (PROSE: The Last Days) and Bethlehem. (AUDIO: Relative Dimensions)

History

As the Eighth Doctor later recalled, the Doctor once brought Leonardo da Vinci to Bethlehem, Judaea in the year 0 BC/AD, in order to witness the birth of Jesus Christ. Despite the Doctor's assurances that there was nothing to fear, once they arrived Leonardo would not approach the stable. (AUDIO: Relative Dimensions)

Judaea was a part of the Roman Empire by at least 64 AD. During the 1st century, Judaea had been the site of rebellion against the empire. Indeed, Drusus Felinistius and his men were the most feared murder squad of all the Roman legions while they were situated in Judaea in the year 49. (PROSE: Byzantium!) Furthermore, the First Doctor, Susan, Ian and Barbara visited Judaea during the siege of Masada, the culmination of one such insurrection. (PROSE: The Last Days)

Marcella, a friend of Rory Williams in Rome in 118, was from Judaea. (AUDIO: Gladiator)

Parallel universes

In a parallel universe, an alternate version of the Doctor visited Judaea with his companions Susan and Leonardo da Vinci. (PROSE: The Innocents)
