Doctor Fendelman was the twenty-first The Blogs of Doom short story, published in July of 2019, in Doctor Who Magazine 539. Like other features in the series, it narrated events in the life of a minor Doctor Who TV character before and after their involvement in the Doctor's life, turning everything the readers thought they knew about them on its head.

In this case, the subject of writer Jonathan Morris's attention was Doctor Fendelman from Image of the Fendahl.

Plot[[edit] | [edit source]]

The events of Image of the Fendahl are seen from Doctor Fendelman's perspective, as he shares his thoughts with Adam Colby and remarks on the similarities between the events at Fetch Priory and Quatermass and the Pit, which can't be a coincidence.

Characters[[edit] | [edit source]]

Worldbuilding[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • Thea's potassium-argon test dates the skull to being 12 million years old.
  • Fendelman was working on a missile guidance system when he detected a sort of vibration, or sonic shadow, which led him to develop the time scanner. The sonic shadow was the moment of the skull's death, a massive in-pouring of energy to store.
  • The pentagram is part of the bone structure of the skull, and acts as a neural relay.
  • The pentagram is a symbol of mystical energy.
  • The Fendahl skull is absorbing energy caused by Fendelman's scanner damaging a time fissure.
  • Maximillian Stael had copies of New Satanist delivered to the priory.
  • Martha Tyler's fruit cake is part of the Fendahl's return.

Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • The story pokes fun at how Image of the Fendahl was influenced by Quatermass and the Pit.
  • A combination of things are allowing the Fendahl to return, including a disco version of the Doctor Who theme song.
