Prelude The Left-Handed Hummingbird was, as the name suggested, a prelude to The Left-Handed Hummingbird by Kate Orman. It did not appear in the published novel.
Summary[[edit] | [edit source]]
Jacqui is a young pregnant woman whose baby is psychic. She is an inmate of a UNIT safe house.
On Christmas Eve she enters the Doctor's room because of her baby's dreams. She tries talking to the Doctor, but he is handcuffed to the bed. As the baby in her womb screams at her to get out, and soldiers rush into the room, in her head she sees the Blue.
Characters[[edit] | [edit source]]
Worldbuilding[[edit] | [edit source]]
- The Doctor is hooked up to an EEG machine.
Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- The first draft of the prelude was more ambiguous as to whether the Doctor deliberately killed Jacqui's baby, and at the behest of Gary Russell, at the time editor of Doctor Who Magazine, it was edited to clarify that this was not the case. In the course of the editing, the last paragraph in which it is clarified that the baby is dead, was "accidentally" left out. This first draft was published in fanzines Broadsword and Sonic Screwdriver.[1]
