The 23rd century saw humanity still reeling from the Dalek invasions of Earth in the previous century. Earth was dominated by corporations. (AUDIO: Faustian) At this time global warming finally caught up with the planet. (GAME: Shadows of the Vashta Nerada)
The republic of Unitaria, made up of several conquered nations, was toppled by an organised rebellion in this century, with help from Vicki Pallister, restoring independence to those under its rule. (AUDIO: Daybreak)
The Eighth Doctor's companion Sam Jones spent three years in this time zone, from approximately 2202-2205, while she was separated from him. (PROSE: Seeing I)
In the early 23rd century, the Septima IX generation ships were commissioned and built in the dockyards of the Mars Orbital. One generation ship, G7-MXX, carried generations of humans on their journey to the rimworlds on the galactic rim. (PROSE: In Passing)
At some point before 2221, the Czech Republic and Slovakia joined to form the Third Czech and Slovak Republic. (PROSE: Spoilsport)
In 2233, the Bruce Master manipulated human scientist Lila Kreeg into helping him escape the Time Vortex. With her aid, he took over Drake Interplanetary, (AUDIO: Faustian) and turned it into the most powerful company on Earth. (AUDIO: Prey) The Dalek Litigator attempted to ensure the Master's execution at this time, arranging for bounty hunter Vienna Salvatori to be hired to kill the Master. The resulting economic difficulties coupled with technical issues surrounding the planned atmospheric ionisation technique led to the Martian terraforming project being cancelled. Although the plan was altered so as to create several artificial suns and place them in orbit around Mars, it never got off the drawing board due to the high financial cost involved. (AUDIO: Deimos)
Eventually three-quarters of Earth's landmass was drowned by water. Humans built islands and colonised parts of the oceans for research and other uses. London was totally flooded. (GAME: TARDIS, Shadows of the Vashta Nerada) Elsewhere on Earth, the underwater base Poseidon 8 was invaded by the Vashta Nerada, infected with an illness and attacked by a rampaging alien shark after the USS Eldridge nearby released a burst of vortron radiation. The Eleventh Doctor obtained Bobby Moore's jersey at a Venusian auction. (COMIC: They Think It's All Over)
In 2294, the people of Venice prepared for the city to finally submerge into the waters of the Laguna, as part of a century-old curse. The Eighth Doctor discovered the curse's true nature and preventrd the city's sinking. (AUDIO: The Stones of Venice)
Parallel universe[[edit] | [edit source]]
In a parallel universe, Earth was a member of the United Federation of Planets during this century. In the 2260s, the Fourth Doctor travelled to the planet Aprilia III, where he met Captain James T. Kirk, Mr Spock, Dr. Leonard McCoy and Montgomery Scott of the Federation starship USS Enterprise and assisted them in defeating a Cyberman invasion of the planet. (COMIC: Assimilation²)
Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- The Discontinuity Guide claimed that the Daleks, following the defeat of the 2150s Dalek invasion of Earth, completed their time travel program, which they had began with Theodore Maxtible, and waged a successful invasion of Earth in the late 21st century, whilst they themselves came from no later than the 23rd century, long before the Draconian Gambit. When their work was undone by the Third Doctor, the Daleks pursued the First Doctor in an attempt to neutralise his "future intervention".[1] It is further noted that, since the Fourth Doctor inadvertently changed Dalek history so that Davros survived, this event would have occurred vastly differently if it happened at all in the new timeline.[2]
