A Short History of Everyone was the fifth book in the Official Guide series, published on 20 October 2022[1] by Penguin Group. As a consolidated edition of most of the previous instalments in the series — How to be a Time Lord, The Dangerous Book of Monsters, and The Companion's Companion — A Short History of Everyone contained a significant amount of material previously written by both Craig Donaghy and Justin Richards. This book was also updated with new entries to cover topics from the Thirteenth Doctor's era and the "Classic Era" of Doctor Who.
The recycled material from previous instalments also carried over in-universe, as this book was stylised as as in-universe memoir put together by the Thirteenth Doctor, who acknowledged the re-use of material written by her previous incarnations and their friends, anticipating the possibility that the next Doctor was feeling "pretty weird" after regenerating.
Furthermore, the material taken from The Companion's Companion was entirely rewritten to be from the Doctor's perspective instead of that of Clara Oswald, and information about monsters and adversaries from The Dangerous Book of Monsters was given an expanded focus on the "Classic Era" as the original book was primarily focused on those seen since 2005. However, material from A History of Humankind was seemingly left out.
