Know Your Enemy was a series of informational "fact files" about various enemies encountered by the Doctor.
History[[edit] | [edit source]]
UNIT Hotline[[edit] | [edit source]]
The series originated as part of the UNIT Hotline feature in early issues of Doctor Who Weekly (later Doctor Who Monthly and Doctor Who Magazine) from issue 26 through issue 47. It then returned for the celebratory issue 350.
Timelines[[edit] | [edit source]]
In 1996, the Off Target feature in Scott Gray's Timelines page was replaced with the comedic Know Your Enemy - a cut-out-and-keep series. After a short run, its place in Timelines was taken by The Clone Zone.
It had a similar format to the original iteration, with several of the same regular subheadings ("Planet of origin", "History", and "Weaponry"). Additional subheadings included "Appearance", "Special abilities", "Weaknesses", "Current status", and the more comedic "Not to be confused with" (which compared the monsters to similar beings from pop culture) and "Menace rating".

Annuals[[edit] | [edit source]]
In the 21st century, the feature was continued in a handful of revival Doctor Who annuals. Doctor Who The Official Annual 2016 renamed the series Black Archive, though the content remained the same. The original name returned in the 2021 annual.
