Potato Head (known until 2021 as Mr. Potato Head) is an American toy brand, invented by George Lerner, and distributed by Playskool. It was first conceived and released, under its original name, in 1952, as a box of plastic body parts with pushpins to be affixed to a real potato or other vegetable. Then-manufacturer, Hasbro, began including a plastic toy potato with the parts in 1964, which has been the standard ever since.
The original, male-presenting character was joined in subsequent years by Mrs. Potato Head, which came with traditionally feminine body parts. The brand name was ultimately shortened to remove the masculine honorific for a gender-neutral name.
Collaboration[[edit] | [edit source]]
The Potato Head brand has collaborated with other franchises to release special edition Potato Heads based on licensed characters.
In 2013, the brand released a limited edition model based on the Eleventh Doctor, which could be purchased from the BBC America Shop and Amazon.
The official product description[1]:
- The Eleventh Doctor as played by “MASH” Smith! Hop in the TARDIS with Mr. Potato Head as he pays homage to the last known survivor of “Galli-Fry”, DOCTOR WHO in his quirky eleventh incarnation! Set comes complete with 8 removable parts and pieces.
