Playing cards were used in many games and tricks.

The Fourth Doctor displayed a card trick at a meeting of the Scientific Reform Society. (DW: Robot)

Upon arriving in Rose Tyler's estate, the Ninth Doctor attempted a card trick and dropped them on the floor. (DW: Rose)

While in Abigail Pettigrew's house, the Eleventh Doctor attempted a trick in which he would guess another's card; he failed numerous times. The Doctor managed to place one within a christmas cracker; though this was still not the correct card. (DW: A Christmas Carol)
