Vampires were mythical, blood-sucking creatures. A wide variety of creatures shared traits with vampires, and either inspired or made use of the legends.
Legends
Vampire legends existed on at least 17 planets, particularly Earth. (DW: State of Decay) Common traits were that they drank blood, could turn others into vampires, feared sunlight, had no reflections, feared crosses, couldn't cross running water and could only be killed by a stake to the heart. (DW: State of Decay, The Vampires of Venice, REF: Monster Files: Vampires)
Vampire-like creatures
- The Great Vampires from the Dark Times inspired many vampire legends. They were also able to turn humans into vampires. (DW: State of Decay)
- When humans were transformed into Haemovores, they became vampire-like. (DW: The Curse of Fenric)
- Plasmavores behaved like vampires. (DW: Smith and Jones)
- Axos was "a space-vampire". (DW: The Claws of Axos)
- The Saturnyns disguised themselves as vampires in 16th century Venice. (DW: The Vampires of Venice)
- Vlad III the Impaler inspired the fictional vampire Dracula. Bram Stoker, who wrote the novel Dracula, was said to be inspired by a Haemovore (DWN: The Curse of Fenric) or his own wife Florence Stoker (DWA: Bat Attack!).
- A vampiric infection came to Earth in the 19th century, with the first human host being Oscar Wilde. (DWA: Bat Attack!)
- Several vampiric individuals existed on Europa. (MA: Managra)
- An unknown alien race customised androids to have all the traits of vampires, including a dislike of garlic. (BFA: Situation Vacant)
- Dark Space 8 once encountered a sweat vampire in one of their many adventures. (BFA: Bang-Bang-A-Boom!)
- This is likely a reference to the Salt Vampire of Star Trek.
- The inhabitants of Nosfera II were said to be vampires. This included the ancient Vampire Gods (possibly the Great Vampires) and the Chiroptera warriors. (DWBIT: Dalek Wars)
- The Forge had obtained vampire DNA from South America in 1911. They attempted to create Vampire/Human hybrids. (BFA: No Man's Land, Zagreus, BFNW: Project Valhalla
- The Vampire Warriors were another vampire-like species. (WC: Snowfall)
