Construction managers, generally known in the United States as construction coordinators are in charge of every aspect of set construction. They are generally hired by the production designer, who is their immediate supervisor. Under the construction manager are a number of people, including painters, construction chargehands, production buyers, riggers, practical electricians, and a whole host of other members of the art department.
After filming has been completed, construction managers are also responsible for destruction: that is, the striking, storing and disposing of sets.
