Patterson was Sir Keith Gold's chauffeur.

Professor Stahlman had ordered him to delay Sir Keith's return trip from the ministry by taking a longer, different route to the Inferno Project in Eastchester, and then faking a vehicle breakdown.

Sir Keith figured out what Patterson was doing and the chauffeur confessed as to what happened. Patterson got the car back on the correct route, but the car was involved in an accident soon afterwards. (TV: Inferno)
