Pippa Holland, born Pippa Dudoin, was the daughter of Oxford College lecturer Christine Holland and the French scientist Pierre-Yves Dudoin. After Pippa's parents were divorced, her mother changed her daughter's name from Pippa Dudoin to Pippa Holland. Even though not biologically related, Pippa thought of Arthur Tyler III as a relative and referred to him as "Uncle Arthur". (PROSE: Escape Velocity)
