* It's unclear what a [[Lernian]] actually is. The Doctor recognises it in the form of one creature with four seperate bodily extensions capable of appearing to act as seperate individuals but are physically connected. The Compare of the show however is a sland-alone humanoid creature who makes references to "we"..
* This story is a parody of another of BBC's Saturday evening shows, ''Strictly Come Dancing'' (hosted by Bruce Forsyth who bears an uncanny resemblance to the compère in the story — complete with chin and catchphrase). Like ''Doctor Who'', ''Strictly'' had a highly successful re-launch and which inspired this comic story's title.
* The Doctor appears to trust Clara enough to carry his sonic screwdriver which she brandishes in this comic story.

Strictly Fight Monsters was a Doctor Who Adventures comic strip published in 2013. It featured the Eleventh Doctor and Clara Oswald.

Summary[[edit] | [edit source]]

On the planet Anclodupon the Doctor and Clara become involved in exposing a corrupt talent show live on TV.

Plot[[edit] | [edit source]]

A Saturday teatime on the planet Anclodupon finds the Eleventh Doctor and Clara overcoming a tentacled terror by tying it up in knots — all for the entertainment of the audience watching a television talent show. Getting a rave review for their performance (and a score from the panel of four judges of 38 out of 40), the Doctor and Clara find themselves through to the next round and an even bigger monster! Locked in a glass case with the giant green clumsy creature the Doctor deliberately duck a blow which smashes the glass and exposes the panel of four judges as one creature — a Lernian! The audience are furious at being deceived and start to boo and hiss. Getting upset (because the Lernian are sensitive to their performances), the compare pleads with the audience. It's not long till the Lernian just wants to go home but the space police arrive and takes them away as they protest their innocence, slightly cheating to make beter television. The Doctor returns to the TARDIS puzzling why people would want to watch a show about people battling monsters. Clara surmises it would be "quite exciting!"

Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • This story is a parody of another of BBC's Saturday evening shows, Strictly Come Dancing (hosted by Bruce Forsyth who bears an uncanny resemblance to the compère in the story — complete with chin and catchphrase). Like Doctor Who, Strictly had a highly successful re-launch and which inspired this comic story's title.
